(Patria) - Early this morning, Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran, carrying out what was officially characterized as a "preemptive strike." Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the start of the attack, leading to a new drastic escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
The Iranian news agency Fars earlier reported that explosions were heard in the cities of Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah, as well as in the capital Tehran.
Iran retaliated swiftly, striking American targets and Israel. Iranian weapons targeted US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. Following Iran's attack on US bases in Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE, the airspace of these countries was completely closed.
Subsequently, the Israeli army announced that Israel had launched a new wave of attacks on targets in western Iran.
The US naval base in Bahrain was the target of an Iranian missile attack, a US official said, describing the situation as an "active situation."
The base is home to the Fifth Fleet of the Navy.

At least one person was killed in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after the country's air defense intercepted several missiles launched from Iranian territory, the state news agency reports.
