After Izetbegović, Čović also met with Cormack and Wigemark

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Croatian member of the BiH Presidency Dragan Čović received US Ambassador Maureen Cormack and EU Delegation Head in BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark. Earlier today, Bakir Izetbegović held a meeting with Ambassadors Cormack and Wigemark.

The topic of discussion was the political situation in the country and the ongoing talks on amendments to the Election Law aimed at implementing the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH in the Ljubić case.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the status of current negotiations aimed at implementing the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH on legitimate representation. They agreed that it is necessary to promptly find a solution to overcome the existing legal vacuum caused by the deletion of disputed articles of the Election Law of BiH.

In an open conversation, Čović once again underlined the most important parts of the decision, which require necessary guarantees of real representation of all three constituent peoples in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, in order to protect the fundamental democratic principles and the integrity of each of the three state-forming peoples of BiH.

In this regard, the Constitutional Court clearly indicated that the House of Peoples serves to represent the constituent peoples, a prerequisite for which is their equal representation and co-decision-making in legislative processes, in accordance with the Constitution and the principle of constitutionality. In the same way, the provision on legitimate representation at all administrative-political levels clearly implies that this principle must be respected with regard to the election of the three-member Presidency of BiH, which represents the institutional expression of the constitutional multinational character of BiH.

At the end of the meeting, the Croatian member of the Presidency expressed clear commitment and optimism regarding the continuation of talks on the implementation of the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH, and the implementation of upcoming elections in a way that each people can autonomously elect their representatives in bodies of collective representation, primarily the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH and the Presidency of BiH.
