AFTER SCHOOL INCIDENT Ministry of Education and Science of Sarajevo Canton announces improvement of security standards

(Patria) - Wishing the injured student of "Behaudin Selmanović" Elementary School a speedy recovery, the Ministry of Education and Science of Sarajevo Canton emphasizes that their next activities will focus on ensuring psychological support is available to all students and educators in coping with the stressful situation, as well as examining the application of existing security protocols in the school.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Sarajevo Canton expects detailed information from the school administration to determine whether all necessary measures have been taken to prevent unacceptable forms of behavior and protect students. In addition, they announce an examination of the effectiveness of existing security protocols and, if necessary, the implementation of additional measures to improve security. In this regard, a team from the relevant ministry will meet with the school management this morning.

Regarding claims that online classes are not allowed, the Ministry emphasizes that disturbing situations like this are not the time for shifting responsibility and mutual accusations, but for a constructive approach and joint commitment to prevent something similar from happening in the future. Such a communication style causes additional unrest and exposes students, their parents, and educators, who are disturbed by yesterday's event, to stress.

"The issue of unacceptable forms of behavior requires a multi-sectoral approach, including the support of all referral mechanisms in the community, which is why this case will be handled with the best interests of minor students in mind," the Ministry stated, and announced that they will ensure that the school's professional services provide the psychological support to students and teachers needed to cope with the stressful situation, through the engagement of the Mobile Professional Team for Crisis Intervention and the provision of advisory support to educational institutions in preventing violence/unacceptable forms of behavior and protecting students.

The Ministry concludes by adding that in the past four years, intensive work has been done to improve security standards and the well-being of children in educational institutions, and activities aimed at preventing unacceptable forms of behavior and protecting students have been undertaken, which will continue with the same intensity in the future.
