Body of missing German doctor found on Prenj after nine months

(Patria) - Today, June 22, 2025, members of the Prenj Konjic Mountain Rescue Service found the body of German citizen Dr. Wolfram Misler at the Ploča location, below the Osobac peak on the Prenj mountain.

Dr. Misler disappeared in September 2024 after traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina for research. His vehicle was found at the foot of Prenj at the time, and the last trace led towards this part of the mountain. Despite months of intensive searches, including checking known routes and using drones, results were long in coming.

Members of GSS Prenj never gave up the search.

"Over the past nine months, with varying intensity, certain locations and possible routes of movement have been constantly checked, in the hope of discovering any trace of the missing mountaineer.

Today, our rescuers, together with Sebastijan Misler, the missing doctor's son, went out again to cover certain paths his father likely used. During this joint search, Dr. Misler's body was found in a very inaccessible area.

An investigation is currently underway by members of the Konjic Police Department, after which a very demanding transport of the body will follow through difficult and technically complicated terrain to a location where it can be picked up by the competent services' vehicle.

His disappearance and the months-long search have left a strong mark on all of us, both humanly and professionally.

This event is another reminder of the complexity and unpredictability of Prenj mountain, and we urge all mountaineers to approach their tour planning with maximum responsibility, informed decisions, and adherence to safety recommendations.
