After 30 Years, the Destroyed Clock Tower Near Ferhadija Mosque in Banja Luka to Be Restored

(Patria) - The Medžlis of the Islamic Community of Banja Luka today received a decision from the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology of the RS entity, issuing a building permit for the restoration and rehabilitation of the clock tower.

"This is the result of patient work and persistent struggle to forever remedy the traces of unfortunate events and destruction, while the effort remains to bring life in Banja Luka and other places from which Bosniaks, and others, were expelled back into civilizational currents, and to leave tears, crying and pain definitively in history. We hope and must believe that someone will live to see that, and whoever does, we believe will be happy," said the Mufti of Banja Luka, Nusret-ef. Abdibegović, on this occasion for the MINA Agency.

The clock tower was demolished in 1993, a few months after the destruction of the mosque.

The area and remains of the historic building - the clock tower in Banja Luka have been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Incidentally, this is the oldest built clock tower in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Part of the original stone has been extracted from the ruins, and after a detailed inspection, it will be decided whether it can be used in the restoration of the clock tower.
