After 23 years of work: Prijedor Merhamet on the verge of closure, 1,000 families left without aid

A meeting of the Management Board in an expanded composition was held at the premises of MDD Merhamet Prijedor. The only item on the agenda was the survival of the Prijedor Merhamet's work, writes the news agency Patria.

After 23 years of continuous work, this humanitarian organization is on the verge of closure. More than 1,000 families from Kozarac to Ljubija, whom Merhamet has been helping all these years, and who live on the edge of existence, will be left without the only guaranteed daily meal they had.  

Unfortunately, Prijedor Merhamet can no longer offer them anything. Employees do not have adequate working conditions, they do not have money to pay utility bills.

They have appealed to the local authorities to provide them with these, but the response was negative. All humanitarian organizations operating in the area of the Prijedor municipality have registered their employees, while Merhamet is run by volunteers. And they are not bothered by continuing to operate that way, but there is no more money.  

Merhamet's clinic, where more than 100 uninsured individuals are treated, is also facing closure.

Prijedor Merhamet is appealing to all those who can help them, so that they do not close their doors after 23 years. They also say that it would be best if there was no need for "merhamets" throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, but that new jobs were being created. But, unfortunately, help is still needed for those who have nothing to live on.
