After 23 years since its demolition, Ferhadija Mosque fully restored

In the building of the Islamic Community Administration Banja Luka, next to the Ferhadija Mosque, on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 1:00 PM, the constitutive session of the Organizational Committee for the opening of Ferhat Pasha Mosque (Ferhadija) will be held. The session will be led by dr. Osman-ef Kozlić, Mufti of Banja Luka, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Ferhat Pasha Mosque, built in 1579 as one of the most significant achievements of Ottoman sacral architecture in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was demolished on May 7, 1993. After this event, May 7 is observed in Bosnia and Herzegovina as the official Day of Mosques. Precisely on that day, May 7, 2016, the opening of Ferhat Pasha Mosque is planned, the construction of which has been ongoing since May 7, 2001. At its first session, the Organizational Committee will officially confirm this opening date for Ferhat Pasha Mosque. 

In addition to a large number of believers, friends from all over the world who followed the progress of the restoration and participated in it are expected at the ceremony, as well as representatives of the governments of the USA, Great Britain, the European Union, and the Republic of Turkey, who are announcing the arrival of a delegation led by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

Among the guests will be diplomats from France, Austria, and Turkey.
