Most polluted air in Ilijaš, Lukavac, Sarajevo and Zenica

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The air in some cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina is again unhealthy this morning, with the most polluted being Ilijaš, Lukavac, Sarajevo and Zenica.

Measurements whose results were published this morning at 8 a.m. showed that the air quality index in Ilijaš was 164, Lukavac 156, Sarajevo 154 and Zenica 152, according to the website “Zrak.ekoakcija”.

Increased symptoms and intensity of illness are possible in people with heart and respiratory diseases, such as asthma. All others may begin to feel the negative impact of pollution on health.

The following groups should reduce any outdoor physical activity: lung and heart patients, pregnant women, children and the elderly. Prolonged or greater exertion while outdoors should also be avoided by everyone else.

Slightly less pollution was recorded in Tuzla, where the level of pollution is marked as unhealthy air, while residents of Goražde and Jajce fared better, breathing moderately polluted air.

Good air quality was registered in Banovići, where the air quality index was eight.

The air quality index value from zero to 50 is good, from 51 to 100 moderately polluted, from 101 to 150 unhealthy for sensitive population groups, from 151 to 200 unhealthy, from 201 to 300 very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous to health.
