Back to the table: Johnson - Juncker meeting on Monday

(Patria) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will meet with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Monday.

The British government announced that the agenda will include more topics, including the continuation of talks started last week with Brexit envoy David Frost.

Prime Minister Johnson stated on Friday that he felt 'cautiously optimistic' about reaching a new agreement with the EU.

At the same time, President of the European Parliament David Sassoli commented after a meeting with Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier on Thursday that Great Britain has not proposed any 'alternatives' for the issue of the Northern Irish border, and that Brexit is 'Britain's failure, not the EU's'.

He also revealed that the British did not want to accept all EU policies, calling them 'half-hearted Europeans'.

We remind you that Johnson lost his majority in parliament and thus control over the Brexit process. At the same time, opposition MPs and rebellious Tories voted for a law that will force the prime minister to request an extension of the Brexit deadline if no withdrawal agreement is reached by October 19.

The conviction of most involved in the process, as well as observers, is that Johnson has aimed for a no-deal exit from the beginning, and that no progress has been made in negotiations with the EU, which was also confirmed by the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli.
