Most successful season for BiH cyclist Lejla Tanović

The best BiH cyclist, twenty-two-year-old Lejla Tanović, finished the season in the best position on the UCI rankings in her career so far. Lejla currently holds the 73rd position among all female cyclists in the world, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

The most successful season for our cyclist so far ended with 11 medals at UCI races and the first victory at a UCI race for BiH.

- The 2016 season was very successful for us, Lejla achieved all the set goals. In addition to the best ranking on the UCI list at the end of the season, she also won her seventh national champion title and the BiH Premier League for the fifth consecutive year. However, our focus was on UCI races where Lejla achieved one victory and a total of 11 medals at races of the International Cycling Union (UCI) - said coach Amar Njemčević.

After two silver medals in Macedonia and Greece, Tanović won gold at the Balkan Championship in Montenegro.

- We worked very hard and for a long time on preparations for the Balkan Championship, and this is certainly one of my dearest victories and titles. After winning silver two years in a row, our goal was the first position and the gold medal. The season was very long and demanding, but I managed to achieve the goals my coach set, and I am very happy to finish the season in 73rd place on the UCI rankings. Now a short break follows, and we immediately return to training because the new Olympic cycle begins next season, where my ultimate goal is to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 - said Lejla Tanović at the end.
