Best May Day Gift: Money for Rijad's Cow Arrived from Vienna

A young married couple from the village of Pirići received a cow, after the media reported that young Rijad Nočić and his family live on the edge of existence, 23 km from Bratunac, in a village where besides them only one other family lives.

The humanitarian campaign for the Nočić family was launched by Sejdalija Nuhanović from Vienna, together with his friends, and very soon they knocked on this family's door with a gift.

Two families in the village of Pirići have been forgotten by everyone, except for a few non-governmental organizations that bring them food. In one house, built of wood, lives young Rijad Nočić, with his wife and two children, one of whom is a newborn, Patria reports.

- The village is deserted. Sometimes people come on weekends, during the summer, but they stay briefly – says Rijad, adding that the silence is only broken by the calls of wild animals.

Until the 1990s, about 70 families lived in the village. The Serbian army burned down the entire village during the conflict, and most of the inhabitants were expelled or killed.

- That is one of the reasons why I returned to the village. I do not want this village to disappear. It is hard, but we manage - says Rijad. He grows food for his family and himself, but that is often not enough, so non-governmental organizations step in to help. The little money Rijad manages to earn he saves for his wife and children, but also to pay the bills.

The cow he received from good people will greatly ease the burden on this family. Rijad says the cow restored his hope for better days. He was most happy for the children. He hopes his little ones will never be hungry again, NAP reports.
