National Monument 'Saburina House' to Be Equipped with New Carved Furniture

New carved furniture, currently being made, should be installed in Saburina House by mid-July - a national monument whose renovation and restoration was initiated by the Stari Grad Municipality several years ago.

The procurement of furniture for Saburina House is part of the fifth phase of the implementation of the project for the restoration and renovation of Saburina House. In this phase, ten carved tables and 19 carved chairs will be procured. This phase of the project costs around 7,000 BAM and the woodcarving workshop „Braća Nikšić“ from Konjic is in charge of its implementation.

- The tables and chairs will be handcrafted from properly dried and healthy maple wood, as stipulated in the project for the restoration and renovation of Saburina House. We expect the tables and chairs to be in Saburina House no later than July 18, as defined in the contract with the contractor - stated the Local Development Department.

They announced that after the completion of this phase, the second phase of the interior decoration of Saburina House will also be implemented. In the second phase, which will cost around 7,500 BAM, the musandiras on the ground floor and first floor will be reconstructed.

- We received funds in the amount of 13,500 BAM from the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports based on the successfully approved project 'Restoration and Renovation of Saburina House', which was prepared by our department - explained the Local Development Department.

House Built in the 18th Century

Saburina House was built in the 18th century as a family home of the Saburs, an old Sarajevo guild family of coppersmiths and traders in coppersmith goods. It came into the possession of the Žiga family through a dowry. The house was originally built as a residential complex consisting of: a women's and men's house, a courtyard, a garden, and auxiliary buildings. The building was in poor condition even before the war, and during the period 1992/1995 it suffered significant damage, with the roof structure, facade walls, and windows being damaged.

Saburina House, the men's part with the courtyard, built around 1750, was restored by the Stari Grad Municipality and ceremonially opened in 2014, thus breathing new life into this historical gem in the heart of Stari Grad.

Weddings, filming, and photography are possible in Saburina House

The Mayor of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality issued an Instruction in 2015 defining the manner of use of the “Saburina House” building. The interior space of the house can be used for filming certain programs (religious, cultural, entertainment, etc.), for photography, photo-shooting, catalog shooting, fashion and other editorials, and for wedding filming or photography (photo album) of the bride and groom, as well as for marriage ceremonies. A maximum of 50 (fifty) people can stay in the space at the same time. The Instruction defines that the “Saburina House” building can be used for the aforementioned purposes only if the content does not compromise the appearance and image of the building, and fees are paid for renting the space.
