Vareš Mayor Resigns from Party Positions and Leaves HDZ BiH

(Patria) - The President of the Municipal Board of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Vareš and the Mayor of Vareš Municipality, Zdravko Marošević, announced that he is leaving HDZBiH.

Marošević informed the municipal organization that he is irrevocably resigning from the position of President of the OO HDZBiH Vareš and demands to be removed from the party's membership.

"Based on the recent events in the Cantonal Board of HDZ of Zenica-Doboj Canton, based on the behavior of HDZ officials in the cantonal and federal government towards Vareš Municipality and the municipal mayor, I had to make this decision with great regret.

As the Deputy President of the KO HDZ BiH ZDK, together with the President of the KO, Mr. Ivo Tadić, I led the KO with great success. Namely, we secured participation in the Government of ZDK, secured three mayoral positions in ZDK from HDZ, elected three deputies in the Assembly of ZDK, made majority decisions, appointed staff to management boards and appointed directors thanks to good cooperation in the Government of ZDK, secured funds for many projects in all municipalities, helped associations and religious institutions, secured a delegate in the House of Peoples of FBiH," Marošević stated.

All of this, he emphasized, was not enough, and a group around the member of the Presidency of HDZ BiH, Mate Zovko, is influencing the President of HDZ BiH to change the electoral list for the Assembly of ZDK for the 2022 elections at his own will and to include a candidate who has no results or experience behind him according to their "whim".

"Also, according to the same principle, the formula for electing the KO was formed, i.e., by the whim of Mate Zovko, a member of the Presidency of HDZ BiH. According to that formula, they selected the KO HDZ BiH, which does not reflect the will of the Croatian people and does not have the necessary territorial representation.

Unfortunately, I note that I have been leading the Municipal Board of HDZ BiH Vareš for over 20 years, that I have organized the political life of Croats, removed the disunity of the Croatian people in Vareš, and ensured participation in power at the municipal level.

As mayor, I organized life in Vareš for the benefit of all citizens, financed all religious communities equally from the budget, all associations stemming from the Homeland War, as well as many other associations and institutions of interest to Croats from neighboring municipalities who have no one to rely on except OOHDZ BiH Vareš and me as the Mayor of Vareš Municipality," Marošević emphasized.

With great regret, he added, he must point out that the President of HDZ BiH, Dragan Čović, "accepted the absurd policy of his close associate Mate Zovko". He wished his former party friends and the OO HDZ BiH Vareš success in their work and in electing their new leadership, and announced that he will always be their friend and available to them.

"I will always remain loyal, both to my Croatian people and to all citizens of Vareš Municipality and BiH. I will continue to do what I entered HDZ for, I will defend the interests of Croats in Vareš as well as in all of BiH, as well as all citizens of BiH, all in the interest of a better and more beautiful life and a secure future. This is my human duty that knows no other values, that does not know how to be hypocritical and two-faced," Marošević stated in his resignation.

Last week, Ivo Tadić, a deputy in the Assembly of ZDK and the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, resigned and left HDZ BiH.
