Stari Grad Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić Visits the Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide

Stari Grad Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić and Deputy Chair of the Stari Grad Municipal Council Irfan Čengić visited today the Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide 1992-1995, and were acquainted with the museum exhibition by Jasmin Mešković, President of the Association of Concentration Camp Prisoners of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the Patria agency.

This museum is located in the very heart of Stari Grad at Ferhadija 17, and first opened its doors last July, since when around 20,000 visitors have viewed its rich content.

Jasmin Mešković said that this is the first museum of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that its primary mission is to present the true facts about the horrific events in our country, that is, to teach new generations about what happened.

- Many foreigners believe that the war conflict and crimes occurred only in Sarajevo and Srebrenica. However, by coming here, in a very credible, symbolic, vivid, but also very moving way, they can learn about the nature of the war throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and the brutal suffering of innocent civilians - said Mešković, and presented the details of the museum exhibition to Mayor Hadžibajrić and Deputy Chair Čengić.

As one of the pressing problems of the museum, Mešković cited the lack of space.

- Given the amount of material we possess and what we want to show visitors, the current rooms are truly too small - complained Mešković.

Mayor Hadžibajrić expressed satisfaction with the existence of this type of museum in the Stari Grad municipality and urged everyone to visit the Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide 1992-1995, especially if they have doubts about certain events from that period.

He also announced the Stari Grad municipality's effort to try to solve the museum's problem and lack of space.

- We plan at the next session of the Stari Grad Municipal Council, scheduled for the end of September, to propose that a beautiful space near this one be allocated for use by the museum, with appropriate compensation of course - said Mayor Hadžibajrić.
