Ilidža Mayor Nermin Muzur: We are on the same side as citizens in the fight against corruption

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - With today's promotion of the established corruption reporting mechanism, the Ilidža Municipality concluded the implementation of its activities on the project "Strengthening Integrity and Transparency in the Public Sector", implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with financial support from the Government of the United Kingdom. With the technical support of the project, the Ilidža Municipality has been working in the previous period on improving good governance mechanisms, as well as on establishing effective corruption reporting mechanisms.

"One of the main goals we set upon taking office was to increase transparency in our work. We have done many projects in this area in the past fifteen months, most notably in cooperation with UNDP. We have especially worked on restoring the trust of our fellow citizens in everything we do. Today we have taken another step forward, which is the promotion of the way in which any suspicion and any form of corruption can be reported if someone notices it," said the Mayor of Ilidža Municipality, Nermin Muzur.

Promotional guides were distributed in the premises of the Ilidža Municipality, through which citizens can learn about the method of reporting suspicious and corrupt activities.

"We informed citizens how they can officially report corruption. There is an email address as well as a special phone number, and everything we have done has been published on our website. We want to tell citizens that we are on the same side and that without their help and direct involvement in these issues, it is difficult for us to make a big breakthrough," emphasized Mayor Muzur.  

The Mayor of Ilidža emphasized that the municipality, in cooperation with UNDP, has done everything to ensure an environment in which citizens can report corruption and suspicious activities. The mayor thanked UNDP for the excellent cooperation in the past period.  

"We will not stop here and we will certainly develop new mechanisms and tools in the future so that the Ilidža Municipality is one of the most transparent municipalities, where citizens want to come and live and where our fellow citizens can solve all their problems in the most efficient way. We plan many more steps when it comes to strengthening integrity, transparency and the fight against corruption. It is difficult to detect suspicious activities and corruption without good cooperation with citizens who are ready to present their problem and, in the future procedure, be witnesses and present their experiences, or provide documentation or in some other way submit evidence that would confirm something that possibly contains certain corrupt elements," concluded Mayor Muzur, and he himself called on citizens to report corruption.
