Mayor Hadžibajrić to gift all babies born in Sarajevo on the first day of the new year

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, mr Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, and the Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, visited the General Hospital Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš this morning where they gifted the first baby born in this hospital in 2022. Along with congratulations to mother Samka Hasibović, who gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Vedad around 07:00 this morning, Mayor Hadžibajrić and Mayor Karić gifted the baby with monetary gifts of 500 KM each.

Given that since December 24, due to the emergence of the Omicron strain of the virus, visits to all clinics within the KCUS have been banned, it was not possible to visit the mother at the KCUS Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, who was the first to give birth in 2022 and delivered twins. However, as announced by Mayor Hadžibajrić, no baby will be forgotten, and gifts are ready for all those born since midnight last night or who will be born by the end of the day.

“All babies born in Sarajevo on January 1 will receive our congratulations and monetary gifts. We decided to at least slightly brighten the gloomy everyday life and the beginning of this year, and also to ease the burden for their parents. We gifted the firstborn baby and mother 500 KM, hoping they spend it in health and joy, and all other babies, regardless of which municipality they belong to by birth, will receive 300 KM from the Stari Grad Municipality,” stated Mayor Hadžibajrić. He added that gifts are also ready for the mother of twins who gave birth last night at the KCUS Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, and it is planned that he and the Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, will also gift these babies upon their discharge from the hospital.

Mayor Karić extended congratulations to the happy mother, as well as to the doctors and medical staff of the General Hospital, and wished them a happy start to 2022. “This is the most beautiful way to begin a year and a new chapter in the life of a family that has received a child. I wholeheartedly congratulate the parents and wish that their little boy, like all other babies, has a happy and carefree childhood. I want to emphasize that as soon as possible, we will also gift the twin babies born last night at the KCUS Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics, immediately upon their discharge from the hospital,” stated Mayor Karić.

Incidentally, the Stari Grad Municipality introduced the practice of so-called congratulations for young mothers almost twenty years ago. To show families with a new addition that this local community is thinking of them, the custom was to visit each young mother and bring her flowers and a greeting card – a monetary contribution. This practice has continued to this day, and over the years the amount of monetary gifts has increased. Just this year, nearly 100,000 KM has been paid out to mothers.

Mayor Hadžibajrić and Mayor Karić were welcomed this morning at the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the General Hospital in Sarajevo by Dr. Aida Bjelopoljak and the on-duty medical staff, who were also given appropriate gifts. The first birth in 2022 at this hospital went without complications, and the mother and baby, who by place of residence belong to the Novo Sarajevo municipality, are feeling well and will soon be able to go home.
