Municipal and City Mayors from BiH to Come to Bihać to Provide Assistance Amid Migrant Crisis

BIHAĆ, (Patria) - Municipal and city mayors from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina will travel to Bihać on Thursday to sign a solemn declaration of assistance to that city, and jointly visit the migrant camp BIRA.

Municipal and city mayors, their deputies, and council chairs, i.e., assembly presidents from Banja Luka, Bosanska Krupa, Doboj, Jajce, Ljubuški, Maglaj, Petrovo, Prijedor, Sanski Most, Trebinje, Vareš, and Zenica have responded to the call and decided to symbolically, as well as materially, help Bihać, which is facing a migrant crisis that disrupts the normal and usual life of citizens in that local community.

In this way, colleagues will express understanding and solidarity with the mayor and citizens of Bihać, who, during the floods of 2014, selflessly helped many local communities affected by that natural disaster.

The event is organized within the action "Let's Help Bihać", which was launched with the support of the USAID PRO-Future project, following a meeting and talks with representatives of the City of Bihać and Mayor Šuhret Fazlić. The visit of the municipal and city mayors is the first round of the "Let's Help Bihać" action, which will gradually include municipal and city mayors from other communities, 73 of them, where the USAID PRO-Future project operates. All municipal and city mayors have previously signed the Platform for Peace, the foundational document of the PRO-Future project, which enables an inclusive approach in the processes of building peace and trust in BiH.

PRO-Future is a project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), implemented by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in cooperation with the Forum of Citizens of Tuzla, the Center for Youth Development Kult, the Nansen Dialogue Center Mostar, Caritas BiH, and the Helsinki Parliament of Citizens Banja Luka.
