No visits at UKCS yet: Measles epidemic continues

The ban on visits to the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo (UKCS) due to the declaration of a measles or rubeola epidemic has not been lifted even after more than two months since the Federal Institute of Public Health declared a measles epidemic in the Sarajevo Canton, reports the BH News Agency Patria (NAP).

Muamera Šehić, spokesperson for UKCS, confirmed for Patria that the visiting ban measures still apply to the clinics for infectious diseases, pediatrics, pediatric surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, cardiac surgery, hematology, resuscitation, and intensive care units...

Measles, also known as rubeola or smallpox, is a viral, contagious disease from the group of exanthematous fevers, which most commonly affects children. Clinically, it manifests as general weakness, malaise, fever, changes in the mucous membranes of the respiratory organs, and the appearance of a characteristic rash that gradually spreads over the skin, from the face and neck, across the torso and limbs.

Those infected most often contract measles by inhaling small droplets coughed out by an infected person, writes NAP.
