Anti-fascists gathered at Tjentište to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Sutjeska

TJENTIŠTE, (Patria) - Representatives of SABNOR of BiH, as well as other anti-fascist associations from Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia, marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Sutjeska at Tjentište today.

Anti-fascists laid wreaths and remembered one of the greatest battles of World War II in this region, in which 7,543 fighters died.

In addition to anti-fascists from the former Yugoslavia, representatives of the Government and Parliament of Montenegro attended the commemoration, and the presidents of SABNOR of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia addressed the attendees.

During the German offensive "Schwarz" in May and June 1943, more than 7,000 partisans died at Sutjeska.

The main messages of today's gathering were that anti-fascism in these regions is not dead, that there are many who want to continue to cherish the tradition of anti-fascism, and it was also stated that the values of the People's Liberation War, such as coexistence, are inviolable and lasting, and that the glorious past must not be forgotten and that lessons should be learned from these events and applied in today's time.

The Battle of Sutjeska was fought from May 15 to June 16, 1943, and was the decisive battle of the fifth enemy offensive.

Almost 127,000 German, Italian, Bulgarian soldiers and Ustaše, with the support of 300 aircraft, held 22,000 partisans in a ring with the aim of complete annihilation.

The First Proletarian Division broke through the enemy ring at Sutjeska on June 10, 1943, and the battle ended on June 15, 1943, with the breakthrough of the main forces of NOVJ.
