New protests 'Stop Femicide' tomorrow at Španski trg in Mostar

(Patria) - The Initiative of Citizens of Mostar is organizing a peaceful protest gathering of citizens of Mostar on
Monday, 08/14/2023 at 6 PM at Španski trg in Mostar.

With peaceful protests, we strive, together, to draw public attention to the problem of femicide, violence against women, but also to present demands to all authorities at the local, cantonal, and state levels.

We demand that the competent authorities act in accordance with the Law, and all authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to approach the problem of femicide and the increasingly frequent occurrence of femicide in BiH seriously.

We demand the introduction of a legal definition of femicide, the introduction of femicide as a criminal offense in all legal and sub-legal acts, and the urgent harmonization of criminal laws with the Istanbul Convention and the revision of penal practices, as well as ensuring prevention and protection from violence against women through competent institutions and multi-sectoral protocols.

We also demand consistent application of the law in cases where a death occurs as a consequence of domestic violence, that the perpetrator be tried according to the provisions of the law that will establish a heavier sentence.

Femicide in our country is a reality and year after year it is increasingly frequent, and as such, it cannot and should not be ignored. We call on all authorities in the City of Mostar, city councilors, cantonal deputies in the Assembly of HNK, non-governmental organizations, citizens of Mostar to join us tomorrow at Španski trg (Mostar) at 6 PM.

The peaceful protest gathering in Mostar has been supported by Ana Bavrka, Jasmina Skender, Emina Babić! Protest gatherings will also be held in other cities in BiH. Together, let's raise our voices and fight against femicide!
