(Patria) - A large banner with the message "KS Government, cancel the match" appeared on the bridge at Skenderija, near the Sarajevo Canton Government building.
The action was organized by citizens in protest against the announced basketball match between the Dubai club (United Arab Emirates) and Israel's Hapoel. These are countries responsible for genocide in Palestine and Sudan.
The match is planned to take place in Sarajevo's Zetra, a venue that is a symbol of the resistance and unity of Sarajevo's citizens.
"Citizens have been reminding for days through a series of actions that Zetra was built, defended, and rebuilt by them, through their effort and work, and that they will not allow the venue belonging to Sarajevo and the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina to be used for events that humiliate the city, its history, and the values of the people who live in it. At a time when the International Court of Justice is conducting proceedings against the State of Israel for genocide against Palestinians, any cooperation with Israeli sports institutions is an act of approval and apartheid of genocide, as well as an evasion of the duty to exert political pressure on Israel through boycott and to show solidarity with the people of Palestine. Our city, which has survived siege and destruction, must not be a place for the normalization of violence and genocide," stated the "Not In Our Name" Initiative.
They particularly emphasized that the Sarajevo Canton Government must take responsibility and cancel the event to which the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina strongly object.
The "Not In Our Name" Initiative states that Sarajevo does not agree to the policy of normalizing genocide and will continue to publicly point out those who allow such shame."
