25th anniversary of the Battle for Poljine marked at Sjenička kosa

The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Battle for Poljine was marked, organized by the Unified Organization of Fighters of the Vogošća Veterans Union, reports the Patria News Agency.

The goal of the battle, which took place on July 31, 1992, was an attempt to unblock Sarajevo in the direction of Vogošća and Ilijaš, and in which a large number of fighters of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina were killed.

The Mayor of Vogošća Municipality, Edin Smajić, during his address, recalled the bravery of the people of Vogošća who stood up to defend their city almost unarmed, defended it and kept it defended. He also recalled the obligation and importance of marking such dates, because their sacrifice must not be forgotten.

The then company commander, Ale Numanović, also addressed the attendees, stating that on that day, inexperience and a lack of military-technical means took their toll on the lives of fighters who only had the courage and desire to fight against a superior enemy.

On July 31, 1992, Teufik Šošić, Hakija Čavčić, Semedin Etemović, Mirsad Omerović, Mersal Plakalo, Rašid Bešlija, and Ibrahim Brkanić gave their lives, and just ten days earlier, on July 20, their comrades Trnka Ilijas, Rokša Senad, and Jamaković Muhamed went missing in an operation by members of the 3rd and 4th companies on Poljine, and were later killed.

After the delegations laid flowers at the Sjenička kosa memorial, Vehbija ef. Makić, imam of the Adil-beg mosque in Kobilja Glava, recited Yasin.
