SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Two sessions of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina are being held today in the Parliamentary Assembly building.
The first will be a thematic session on the state of the judiciary. The thematic session is expected to be attended by the President (Milan Tegeltija) and members of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), the Chief Prosecutor of Bosnia and Herzegovina Gordana Tadić, and the President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ranko Debevec.
Interestingly, the President of the HJPC Milan Tegeltija appeared yesterday in front of the hall where the Collegium was being held, but he was not allowed to enter.
Earlier, Tegeltija gave statements in which he said that a large number of deputies in the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, except on a declarative level, do not substantially understand the separation of powers, do not respect it, nor can they truly accept the independence of the judicial system.
It will be interesting to hear his reflections today.
At the previous session, deputies adopted the Draft Law on the Termination of the Mandate of the HJPC in its current composition, proposed by Dragan Mektić, a deputy of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS). This law stipulates that the mandate of the Council in its current personal composition ends on June 15, 2020.
The proposer stated in the explanation, among other things, that one of the reasons for proposing this law is "restoring public trust in the work of holders of judicial functions."
Muriz Memić, the father of the murdered young man Dženan Memić, will also be present at the session but will not be able to address the thematic session on the state of the judiciary. One of the deputies will speak on his behalf.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić (SDA) said that today the reflections of the deputies will be heard, as well as introductory presentations and responses to any suggestions or proposals from representatives of the Bosnian judicial authorities.
After the thematic session, the deputies will continue their work and hold the 7th regular session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where various laws, decisions, and ratifications of agreements will be considered.
