Only the ruling coalition attending meeting in BiH PA on constitutional changes, opposition refused invitation

(Patria) - A meeting of representatives of political parties with deputies and delegates in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly will be held today at 1 PM.

This is an invitation from the 'trojka' parties (SDP, NiP, NS) that followed a meeting of the state coalition in Bakinci at Milorad Dodik's private estate. Constitutional Law amendments were discussed at that meeting, and the 'trojka' later sent this invitation to discuss changes to the BiH Constitution in order to implement the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

SDA, DF, NES, SBiH, as well as the opposition from RS SDS, PDP, and Nebojša Vukanović's party, refused the invitation to the meeting.

HDZ and SNSD have also announced the participation of their representatives, although they do not see a possibility for constitutional changes. A two-thirds majority is required for constitutional changes.

The 'trojka' parties stated in the invitation that party delegations should bring their own proposal for constitutional changes, which caused reactions from the opposition. They told the 'trojka' that they are unserious and that they should submit what they agreed upon in Bakinci to the BiH PA.

According to the deadline set by the coalition at the meeting in Bakinci, there is not much time left to reach an agreement and adopt the law. Regarding the BiH Election Law, HDZ President Dragan Čović said that it should be finalized by the end of February, and for other agreements, the deadline is the end of April, provided that BiH starts accession negotiations in March. Otherwise, the agreement is no longer valid.
