7,566 voters cast ballots in repeated elections in Stolac

Repeated elections for the mayor and municipal council were held today in the municipality of Stolac. All polling stations closed at 7:00 PM. 7,566 voters, or 75.57%, voted at regular polling stations, reports the Patria agency.

A total of 11,404 voters were eligible to vote.

Bosniaks eligible to vote had boycotted the elections until 1:00 PM, after which they began to turn out in large numbers, significantly increasing the percentage compared to the figures at 11:00 AM. By 3:00 PM, voter turnout exceeded 56%. Following a call from the Initiative for Stolac, whose candidate Salmir Kaplan was removed from the mayoral list, Bosniaks participated in large numbers. The elections were monitored by teams from the Coalition 'Pod lupom' (Under the Microscope), and only minor irregularities were recorded and immediately reported.

The candidates for mayor were Stjepan Bošković (HDZ BiH) and Mato Komšić (SDF).

The Central Election Commission of BiH will publish the first preliminary results for the mayor from the regular polling stations on its website, www.izbori.ba, around 10:00 PM tonight. Preliminary incomplete results for the municipal council will be published around midnight.
