Playground planned at the site of the old seismological station on Grdonj

Representatives of the executive and legislative authorities of the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo, led by the Chairman of the Municipal Council Nedžad Ajnadžić, and the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of BiH and cantonal public enterprises “Park“ and “Sarajevo Forests“, today visited the neglected facility and the site of the old seismological station on Grdonj Street, where the construction of a sports court and a children's playground is planned, reports the Patria News Agency.

Citizens of the local community “Hrastovi-Mrkovići“ have repeatedly highlighted the problem of the lack of sports facilities and have submitted an initiative to renovate, clean up, and build a children's playground at the neglected facility and site of the seismological station on Grdonj Street.

Mayor Dževad Bećirević and the Municipal Council have always shown great understanding and strived to create a more pleasant living environment for the residents of Centar, especially the youth, and the Municipality has so far invested significant financial resources in the construction, renovation, and equipping of sports courts and children's playgrounds.

In this regard, the initiative of the residents of the local community “Hrastovi-Mrkovići“ was accepted, and in the past period, two meetings were held between representatives of the executive and legislative authorities of the Municipality of Centar and the director of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, Almir Bijedić, to implement the project of constructing a children's playground and a sports court on Grdonj.

The Government of the Federation of BiH is the owner of the seismological institute facility and the surrounding land, totaling about six dunams, while the Institute is only the user. Director Bijedić supported the initiative to build a playground on Grdonj and emphasized that the next step is to obtain approval from the Government of the Federation of BiH.

The Municipal Council of Centar will, at its next session, together with Mayor Bećirević, submit an initiative to the Government of the Federation of BiH to obtain approval for the commencement of the construction of a children's playground and a sports court on Grdonj.

Within the project “Renovation of Small Public Areas in the Municipality of Centar“, the Municipality would finance the horticultural arrangement and improvement of part of the land with park benches and the area where children's playground equipment will be installed at the mentioned location. The construction of a multifunctional sports court is planned on another part of the land, it was announced from the Municipality of Centar.
