Messages of support for genocide victims on bones

The art installation „Million Bones“, which will now be placed in the Memorial Center in Potočari, will testify to future generations that in Srebrenica in 1995 one of the greatest genocides in this part of BiH and Europe after World War II occurred, and that it was committed against Bosniaks by their Serbian neighbors, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The installation was placed in Washington in 2013, but has now been brought to Srebrenica where it will be exhibited to warn that evil should never be repeated.

The exhibit weighs 12 tons. The imitation bones were made by 2,500 people, and among the participants were genocide victims from all over the world. In Srebrenica alone, the installation was set up by various people from about 20 countries around the world.

The director of the Center for Post-Conflict Research, Velma Šarić, said that young people from around the world, through joint volunteer efforts, showed that they are interested in the tragedy in Srebrenica and that they sympathize with the victims of genocide.

- Young people are sending a message: „Stop genocide denial“, because genocide denial leads to greater divisions – Šarić explained in an interview with the Patria agency.
