More than 6,000 examinations performed annually at the UKCS Radiology Clinic

The first pediatric ultrasound school, titled "Ultrasound School in the Pediatric Population," began on Thursday at the Radiology Clinic of the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

The school was opened by Prof. Dr. Sandra Vegar – Zubović, Director of Diagnostic Disciplines and Head of the UKCS Radiology Clinic.

The reason for launching the School is primarily the fact that one third of the population belongs to children aged one to eighteen. Given that ultrasound has been known for decades as a completely harmless form of diagnostics, the need has arisen to expand ultrasound to all healthcare institutions.

The establishment of the Ultrasound School at the UKCS Radiology Clinic is aimed at acquiring knowledge in this field, and thus improving healthcare for the pediatric population. Pediatric ultrasound training is being organized for the first time, and the majority of participants are specialist radiologists, or doctors specializing in radiology, followed by specialist pediatricians. Participants from several cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina have registered for the School, recognizing the need to further expand their acquired knowledge in ultrasound diagnostics.

The Radiology Clinic is a referral center in ultrasound diagnostics, confirmed by the fact that 6,000 ultrasound examinations were performed at the Clinic in 2014.
