The renovation of the Kalin Hadži Alija waqf in the center of Sarajevo will soon begin, where a mosque will be rebuilt, reports the Patria agency.
The Waqf Directorate of Bosnia and Herzegovina reminds that at the corner of today's Kulovića and Branilaca grada streets in Sarajevo, from 1553 to 1947, there was a mosque that was demolished by the socialist authorities. A park and a residential building were built on that site. The building housed clerks and military officers of the Yugoslav People's Army.
The park was later named after the Slovenian poet France Prešeren.
During the renovation of the park in 2004, the remains of the mosque and a cemetery were found.
The Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina supported the Waqf Directorate, which plans to rebuild the mosque at that location, reports Patria.
