Final conference of the project 'Improving Court Efficiency and Accountability of Judges and Prosecutors in BiH' held in Ilidža

(Patria) - The results achieved through the partnership of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) of BiH and the Government of Sweden were presented during the final conference of the project "Improving Court Efficiency and Accountability of Judges and Prosecutors in BiH - Third Phase", which was held today in Ilidža.

The main goal of the project is to improve the efficiency, quality, independence, and transparency of the judiciary, leading to the creation of a judicial system in the service of citizens.

Representatives of the judicial community and international representatives emphasized that these are results that allow for the continuation of reform activities and strengthen the efficiency of the BiH judicial system.

Some of the achieved results include: improvement and reorganization of business processes in courts, establishment of a system for monitoring existing work capacities and even workload distribution of all available resources in the court, achieved improvements in appellate civil and enforcement proceedings, improved gender equality in BiH's judiciary and the position of vulnerable groups in contact with the judiciary, and strengthened court capacities in terms of proactive communication with the media and the public, as well as court transparency.

According to the President of the HJPC of BiH, Halil Lagumdžija, thanks to this cooperation, real changes are visible in the work of the courts, which are of great importance for establishing a legal system that citizens will trust and that will be able to ensure the respect of the basic principles of a democratic society, which is a priority for all those who care about the country's progress and development.

The implementation of the mentioned project was welcomed by Eva Smedberg, Head of the Development Cooperation Department at the Embassy of Sweden, who expressed her satisfaction at witnessing the results achieved within the framework of cooperation between Sweden and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Director of the HJPC of BiH Secretariat, Admir Suljagić, emphasized that through the implementation of this project, the HJPC of BiH team, in cooperation with the Swedish Courts Administration (SNCA) and the Swedish Enforcement Authority (SEA), has made significant progress in areas whose improvements are a prerequisite for the overall judicial reform processes, which are necessary on BiH's European path.

Experiences and results of participation in project activities were also discussed during the conference by representatives of the HJPC of BiH Ana Bilić Andrijanić, Head of the Department for Improving Court Efficiency and Quality, and Kenan Ališah, Deputy Head of the Department for Improving Court Efficiency and Quality, Goran Dujić, President of the Municipal Court in Travnik, Muhamed Tulumović, President of the Municipal Court in Tuzla, Adnan Baručija, Judge of the Supreme Court of the Federation of BiH, Marija Pavlović, psychologist at the District Public Prosecutor's Office of East Sarajevo.

International partners, representatives of the Swedish Courts Administration - Ludvig Becking, Head of the Department for International Relations, Sebastian Nilhammer, Program Manager and Legal Advisor, Johanna Van Rooij, Program Manager and Legal Advisor, and Pernilla Flank, Judge and Project Coordinator, as well as representatives of the Swedish Enforcement Authority Marie Olausson - Head of the Business Support Department and Mona Matsson - Head of the Leadership Support Unit, also spoke.

The final conference of the project "Improving Court Efficiency and Accountability of Judges and Prosecutors in BiH - Third Phase" was organized by the HJPC of BiH, and was attended by representatives of the judicial community, international organizations, ministries, as well as numerous international partners.
