At the Bohemian Cemetery in Chicago, Bosniaks erect first nišans

At the municipal Bohemian Cemetery in Chicago, Bosniaks have erected the first nišans, tombstones, which are identical to those placed in graveyards in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

The first Bosnian nišans in Chicago were placed on October 5 this year, the second day of Kurban-Bajram, in the presence of about 50 members of the local congregation. The idea for this project was initiated by Hafiz Nermin ef. Spahić, imam in Des Moines.

The honor of placing the first nišan in Chicago was entrusted by Bosniaks to Besim Imamović, whose wife Mejra Sada Imamović perished at the Markale market during the shelling of Sarajevo, at the time of the last Serbian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports NAP.
