(Patria) - Boško Unčanin, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his involvement in the killings of at least 74 civilians in Velagići near Ključ on June 1, 1992, was arrested at the border crossing in Bijeljina, confirmed for Detektor.
Unčanin was, as stated by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after the arrest taken to the detention unit in Vojkovići because his detention was ordered during the pronouncement of the verdict.
The detention was ordered by the same decision from July 11, and can last a maximum of nine months or until a new court decision, explained the State Court.
Detektor previously reported that Unčanin, along with Dragan Despot and Marinko Miljević, was sentenced to a total of 54 years in prison for crimes against humanity, i.e., that as members of the Army of Republika Srpska they participated in the persecution of the civilian Bosniak population in the Ključ area.
Unčanin and Despot did not appear at the pronouncement of the first-instance verdict, and since they were not found at their addresses, an order was issued for an international warrant for their arrest.
"The accused Dragan Despot is still at large," states the response of the Court of BiH to Detektor.
Miljević, who is serving a sentence for another crime, was the only one of the accused to attend the pronouncement of the verdict, which stated that men from Vojići, Hasići, Nezići, Hadžići, and other hamlets of Velagići were called on June 1 to come to a checkpoint, where they were detained, and then locked in an old school.
In the evening hours, they were called out and lined up against a wall, while the accused, along with other soldiers, stood in a semicircle and opened fire, killing at least 74 civilians.
The bodies were transported to the mass grave "Lanište 2", which was exhumed in 1996.
An appeal against this verdict is allowed to the Appellate Chamber of the Court of BiH.
