On this day in 1993, hero Enver Šehović died defending Bosnia and Herzegovina

(Patria) - On this day, 27 July 1993, Enver Šehović, commander of the First Glorious and Knightly Motorized Brigade of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was killed on the hill Žuč above Sarajevo at the age of 26.

He was awarded the highest wartime decoration "Golden Lily", and posthumously the Order of the Hero of the Liberation War.

He was born on 15 January 1967 in the village of Bujakovina in Foča. He completed secondary military school in Sarajevo and the Army Military Academy in Belgrade.

He left the former Yugoslav People's Army in early April 1992, after which he joined the Territorial Defence of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He was commander of the Velešić Detachment from April '92 until 27 May of the same year, and then commander of the 13th Novo Sarajevo Territorial Defence Brigade, better known as the 13th Pofalići-Velešić Brigade.

He also commanded the First Mechanized Brigade of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 28 September '92 to 19 February '93, when the First Motorized Brigade of the First Corps of the ARBiH was formed, at the head of which he remained until his death on 27 July 1993.

He took part in the Battle of Pofalići, the liberation of Žuč to Orlić, the most dominant elevation 877, and the defence of Orlić in September 1992, when the aggressor, using human shields, attempted to break through the brigade's defence lines. He was a participant in the defence of Azići and Bari, the liberation of the wider Žuč area and the famous elevation 850 and Golo brdo, which were impregnable fortresses of the aggressor units.

He was always at the head of his units, rifle in hand, thus instilling in them the strength to persevere in every heroic battle.

Among the many fighters of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina who gave their lives for the defence of our homeland on the same day were Šehović's comrades-in-arms and 18 members of the Special Unit of the Police Detachment "Bosna".
