MVP BiH on the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (hereinafter referred to as the "United Kingdom") officially announced its intention to withdraw from the European Union on March 29, 2017, in accordance with Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina has received notifications from the Embassy of the United Kingdom, as well as the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, that the United Kingdom and the Union have reached an official withdrawal agreement, which was signed in London on January 24, 2020. It will enter into force on January 31, 2020, at midnight (Central European Time). From that moment on, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will no longer be a full member state of the EU.

All international agreements between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union will continue to apply to contractual relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United Kingdom until the end of the transitional period, specifically until December 31, 2020. Furthermore, the legal status of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina residing in the United Kingdom will also remain the same after the exit from the European Union.

The competent institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina will take the necessary steps in the coming period to legally regulate the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United Kingdom, which have so far been regulated by international agreements between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union. The withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union will not affect the exceptionally good and friendly relations between our two countries, nor the continuation of the very important support that the United Kingdom provides to the international aspirations of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
