Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide 92-95 Moves to New Location

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Elmedin Konaković, member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH and representative in the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton Amor Mašović, on the occasion of marking the 24th anniversary of the suffering of Sarajevo residents and the shelling of the Markale market, visited the Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide 1992-1995, located in Stakleni grad.

This was the first visit by Prime Minister Konaković to this museum, who said after the tour that all citizens of BiH, as well as those who come to our city, should visit its exhibition.

- Unfortunately, we find ourselves today in a time when there is an attempt to change the character of the war, an attempt to equate the victim and the perpetrator, and generally to change the character of the war - emphasized Prime Minister Konaković, adding that it seems to him that we are not sufficiently or at all aware of what we survived more than 20 years ago.

According to him, unfortunately, today's politics does not support this either and is more concerned with personal interests and positions.

Precisely because of this, he said, from this place we should hear clear messages about how we should behave 20 years after the aggression on BiH.

He emphasized that in this small space of the Museum, an impressive number of pieces of evidence, indicators of difficult human stories, the suffering of the youngest and oldest, pregnant women with unborn children, speak of crime, genocide and atrocity, "of what, unfortunately, today in parts of BiH some people still glorify and celebrate."

- Even that was not a sufficient warning for us, and I appeal to all those pro-Bosnian, civilizational and human forces to visit such and similar facilities as often, more and more seriously, and thus remind us of what our task is, and that is to build this country in the way that all those who suffered left us as a legacy, and not as we do today - underlined Prime Minister Konaković.

He announced that the Government of Sarajevo Canton will support such projects, and that it will make all available resources available to make the museum more accessible to visitors, because "it deserves to be in the very heart of the city."

Prime Minister Konaković and representative Mašović were joined in visiting the Museum of War Crimes and Genocide by the President of the Association of Camp Inmates of BiH, Jasmin Mešković, who pointed out the importance of preserving the exhibits, because each of them has its own story of pain, disappearance and survival, and that the primary goal is not to forget the victims.

President Mešković said that the Municipal Council of Stari Grad has allocated a new space for the Museum of Crimes and Genocide at Muvekita 11, with an area of 220 square meters, and it is expected that they will manage to move within a month.

Incidentally, the Museum opened two years ago, and what is on display is only part of the collection that this Museum possesses, but due to lack of space, they are unable to exhibit everything.
