Mustafa Habul left over half a million marks to the Srebrenica Memorial Center in his will before his death

(Patria) - The Srebrenica Memorial Center will forever remember the late Mustafa Habul, who etched his name into the foundations of this institution with his generosity.

Mustafa Habul, born in Trebinje, was an architect who moved to distant Australia in the sixties of the last century.

There, through hard work and knowledge, he gained great respect. Towards the end of his life, he decided to donate a significant amount of money to the Srebrenica Memorial Center.

On May 8th this year, a depot was opened at the Memorial Center where biological material and artifacts of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide will be stored.

The facility, which cost over a million marks to build, was completed thanks to the joint cooperation of USAID and the Memorial Center, in which Mustafa Habul's donation of over half a million marks played a key role.

Today, the Memorial Center was visited by Reno Habul, son of the late Mustafa Habul, who fulfilled his father's wish to donate funds to this institution after his death.

During his first visit, Habul spoke with the Director and staff of the Center and toured the permanent exhibitions, as well as the depot built thanks to his father's donation.

- This is my first time here today, and it's hard for me to describe my emotions. I am here because of my father, who wanted to do something for this place, and I am glad he did.

I am honored to have seen today where the money he donated was spent. Although I am not related to this place by family ties, nor do I come from here, nor did I experience what these people experienced here, I felt many emotions today – in conversations with the mothers, the Center's staff, touring the entire complex and the cemetery.

A lot can be said about it, and yet not everything would be said. This place needs concrete support for the generations that will come after us. It needs to survive in this place, and therefore I am aware of how much the funds donated by individuals like my father can contribute to this institution growing and remaining for the future.

Every support is significant. This is my first visit, but it will certainly not be my last – said Reno Habul during his visit.

The generosity and kindness of individuals like Mustafa Habul are invaluable in preserving the culture of remembrance.

Their selfless acts not only help maintain and improve the Memorial Center but also ensure that the atrocities are never forgotten.

Such donations enable future generations to learn about history, understand the importance of remembrance, and continue to build a society based on justice and compassion.

Habul's generosity remains a lasting symbol of inspiration and hope for all of us that we can do a lot for our better future through sincere actions, it was announced from the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
