Muslim Clergy Lacks Ideas and Credibility

Reisu-l-ulema Husein ef. Kavazović, on the occasion of Kurban-Bajram, spoke in an interview for the Islamic informative newspaper „Preporod“ about the work of the Islamic Community, Hajj and sacrifice, assistance to the population affected by floods and conflicts occurring in the Middle East, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Speaking about Kurban-Bajram, the Reisu-l-ulema said that the sacrifice of kurbans is the most beautiful and complete expression of gratitude during the Bajram days, because „by offering kurbans, Muslims will humbly fulfill an important religious obligation and practically follow the sunnah (practice) of Ibrahim and Muhammad, peace be upon them.“

He also conveyed: „May the rituals of Hajj, in which Muslims from all over the world will participate together, be an example to today's Muslims that unity is firmly built into the foundations of our faith.

Muslims must be united in good at all places and at all times, just as they are united these days in worship and good deeds at the Holy Kaaba in Mecca and on Mount Arafat, from where human civilization originated and from where the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, sent his last message to his companions, advising them to refrain from all that is ugly and forbidden.“

When asked about the possibility that accommodation for families affected by floods would not be provided before winter, the Reisu-l-ulema said that he was not satisfied with the intensity of the reconstruction of the affected areas.

„We are particularly concerned about the possibility that citizens who have lost their homes will face winter without a roof over their heads. This would be unforgivable for all of us, especially for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian government structures at all levels. We in the Islamic Community have tried to do as much as possible. Our jamaat members, jamaats, regional boards, imams, and muftis have made significant efforts to help those affected by floods and landslides in every way they could.“

The Reisu-l-ulema called on Muslims to participate in the electoral process within the Islamic Community and renew their legitimate will by legitimizing those who represent the Islamic Community.

„The Islamic Community participates in very important social processes in our society. This is an opportunity to invite our Muslims to get involved in the elections of the Islamic Community and contribute to its development on the foundations of Islamic principles. The Islamic Community is the community of all Muslims and is open to all those who live by Islamic norms. We can develop and preserve the Islamic Community only if we participate and show care for its structure,“ said, among other things, the Reisu-l-ulema.

Referring to the conflicts in the Middle East and the abuse of religion in those conflicts, the Reisu-l-ulema said:

„The ulema must everywhere and always, and we in the Islamic Community do this, unconditionally condemn every form of violence and terrorism. Violence in the name of religion is ultimately violence against religion. Terrorism in the name of Islam is the most terrible undermining of Islam.“

He is convinced that Muslim clergy lack ideas and credibility, and that the ulema must find the courage to first ask the right questions regarding the state of the Muslim world today, emphasizing that he does not fear for Islam from „our enemies, I fear for ourselves, our negligence and ignorance, because everything that is not justice, mercy, honest treatment, love, a sincere and gentle word cannot have its roots in Allah's religion,“ said, among other things, Reisu-l-ulema Husein ef.
