Muslims mark Ashura Day

Muslims today mark Ashura Day – a commemoration of God's prophets and important historical dates. This is an occasion when Muslims worldwide remember the difficult moments that prophets had during their lives, but also the mercy of Almighty God who helped them in the hardest moments of spreading God's word, writes the BH news agency Patria (NAP).

According to the Islamic calendar, Ashura Day is observed on the tenth day of the month of Muharram. On that day, Muslims fast, intensify their prayers to God, and believers give more to the poor on this day than they usually do.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Muslims especially remember Noah (peace be upon him) on Ashura Day, which is why they also prepare the dish "ashura", made from at least seven, and up to 77 types of ingredients. "Ashura" has been prepared for centuries in many Bosniak households, after which women share it with their neighbors, and in the last few years, "ashura" has also been prepared in an organized manner in many tekkes across Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes NAP.
