Murphy tomorrow in Potočari with a delegation from the USA

(Patria) - US Ambassador to BiH Michael Murphy will attend the commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica tomorrow. He was also in Potočari today, and walked part of the Peace March together with other participants.

He sent a message ahead of July 11, which we are transmitting in its entirety.

"On Tuesday, I will attend the commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, a dark moment in history, not just for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but for all of humanity. On this day, as always, the people of the United States express solidarity with the victims, survivors, and families mourning their loved ones. We grieve with you.

The United States is committed to supporting survivors and helping those who keep the memory of the victims alive beyond July 11. That is why we are proud to support the Srebrenica Memorial Center in preserving and displaying personal belongings of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and in researching the digitalization of survivors' testimonies, so that the story of the Srebrenica genocide is easily accessible to everyone in the world.

It is my honor that the Special Envoy of the US Department of State for monitoring and combating antisemitism, the Special Representative for Racial Equality and Justice, and the Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom will join the US delegation in Potočari tomorrow. The participation of these officials shows that Srebrenica remains in the focus of US policy. They are visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina to express their opposition to genocide denial and inflammatory rhetoric.

The facts about the Srebrenica genocide have been unequivocally established by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice, and are supported by irrefutable forensic evidence. BiH officials at all levels have an institutional and legal responsibility to acknowledge what happened in Srebrenica 28 years ago, and a lasting obligation to teach future generations the truth, while respecting the victims, supporting the survivors – including a culture of remembrance, searching for the missing, and seeking justice through investigations and prosecution of perpetrators, some of whom are still free and live among us," the ambassador stated.
