(Patria) - A ceremonial reception was held tonight at the US Embassy in Sarajevo on the occasion of American Independence Day, celebrated on July 4.
US Ambassador Michael Murphy addressed those present, stating that the US commitment to the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and multi-ethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as its integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions, has never been stronger.
Murphy warned that today in Bosnia and Herzegovina there are political leaders "who seek to destroy what we have built together, who attack the fundamental rights and freedoms of their voters."
They, he added, put their corrupt interests ahead of the prosperity of the people they claim to represent, who tear at the fabric of Bosnian society by engaging in divisive politics instead of seeking to heal the wounds of the past, and who intend to tear apart the Dayton Peace Agreement.

- This jeopardizes the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the opportunity that the EU's decision to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina provides to the citizens of this country. We were there to help rebuild Bosnia and Herzegovina, and we will not allow anyone to destroy or tear it apart - Murphy stated.
He added that he is proud of the work his team in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, and Mostar has done to give this policy concrete, tangible meaning for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- I promise that we will continue to work tirelessly to build a future in which all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina can thrive, and to confront the many challenges the country currently faces.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has no greater friend and more committed partner than the United States - concluded Ambassador Murphy.
