MUP USK arrests two people from the Directorate of Regional Roads on the order of the Prosecutor's Office

(Patria) - On the order of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of the Una-Sana Canton, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of USK have arrested two responsible persons of the Public Institution "Directorate of Regional Roads of USK" Bihać on suspicion of abuse of official position, causing multi-million damage to public funds.

As announced, persons with initials A. O. and E. K. were deprived of their liberty due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of abuse of position or authority.

According to the order to conduct an investigation, the suspects are accused of, as responsible persons of the Directorate of Regional Roads of USK, using their official position and authority, acting contrary to the interests of the service, and agreeing to asphalt a local road in a settlement in the municipality of Ključ with the economic entity P. P., even though they knew that the management, construction, and maintenance of local roads is not within the jurisdiction of this institution.

For the aforementioned works, as stated, the amount of KM 56,145.02 was paid to the economic entity, although it was determined that the actual value of the performed works amounts to KM 19,789.20, thereby causing damage of KM 36,355.82 to the Directorate of Regional Roads of USK, while at the same time acquiring property benefit for a third party in that amount.

"After the criminal investigation, the persons deprived of their liberty will be handed over to the acting prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of the Una-Sana Canton during tomorrow, who will question them and make a decision on further measures and actions in the case," stated the USK Prosecutor's Office.

They remind that this information does not prejudge the outcome of the criminal proceedings, and that everyone is considered innocent until their guilt is established by a final court verdict.
