MUP KS: We have not been notified of a citizens' gathering, we will not tolerate any violence

The Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton has not received an official request for holding a public gathering - a protest of citizens, as of today, although some individuals are claiming through the media that it has been done, the MUP KS stated, as reported by the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- Following the posts of some media, social networks, and the information we have obtained, we can expect that a certain number of citizens will take to the streets with the aim of expressing protest regarding the situation in the country. We respect and support the legitimate legal right of citizens to peaceful gatherings and expression of their views, and we will ensure such gatherings within our jurisdiction - stated the MUP KS.

Given the constitutional and legal provisions stating that the main task of the police is to protect the constitutional order, personal and property safety of citizens, the Police Administration will take all measures to secure and enable public and protest gatherings for citizens to express their views, but likewise will not tolerate violent behavior, endangering the health of citizens and police, as well as destruction of property.

Past experiences show that a significant majority of citizens respect the law and express their views peacefully, but also that smaller groups and irresponsible individuals often abuse these gatherings to vent their frustrations, attacking police officers and other citizens, destroying property.
In this regard, we appeal to participants of any potential protest gatherings to refrain from any violent behavior, and to identify troublemakers and, in cooperation with the police, remove them from the public gathering.
