HNK Ministry of Interior taking measures to protect children in traffic

The new school year 2017/2018 is beginning in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, and in this regard, police administrations and police stations of this Ministry will undertake necessary measures and actions within their jurisdiction to protect children – as the most vulnerable category of road users, it was announced from the HNK Ministry of Interior, reports Patria News Agency.

At the beginning of each new school year, several hundred new schoolchildren appear on the roads, some of whom are encountering fast cars, motorcycles, pedestrian crossings, traffic lights, etc. for the first time.

The most vulnerable group are first-grade students.

In order to create the most favorable conditions for the safety of students in traffic, especially the youngest ones, police administrations will ensure intensified police measures and actions near schools, at intersections where students cross the road, and at places where pedestrian crossings are not regulated by traffic lights.

The HNK Ministry of Interior hereby calls on the media to intensify their activities towards protecting the youngest road users, and appeals to motor vehicle drivers to be maximally cautious (but also patient) on roads near schools – the statement reads.
