Munira Subašić "Woman of Peace" for 2015.

The president of the Association "Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa" Munira Subašić is the recipient of the "Woman of Peace" award for 2015. Subašić told the BH news agency Patria that she is happy about the award, because it means the world respects and sympathizes with the victims of Srebrenica.

Munira Subašić and the Association "Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa" represent thousands of mothers from eastern Bosnia, whose sons and other family members were killed during the Serbian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some mothers lost entire families.

Thus, the news that Serbian soldiers killed Nazija Beganović's six sons in the spring of 1992 made headlines in the world media.

- Unfortunately, even today we are often better understood in the world than here in Bosnia and Herzegovina - said Subašić.

She says that mothers will never forgive the perpetrators who took their children to their deaths, but that they advocate for coexistence and peace among future generations of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- That is why we must talk and talk, because there can be no peace without dialogue. Crimes must be acknowledged, condemned, and efforts must be made to ensure they never happen again. We must do this for the generations to come, we must leave our grandchildren a safe country in which they will live side by side - said Subašić.

The award was presented to Munira Subašić in Paris on November 19th, on the initiative of the Association of Mothers for Peace. The award was given based on the activities of the "Association of Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa". Mothers from the Association work extensively on organizing conferences, round tables, public forums, and cooperate with other non-governmental organizations throughout the region and the world, writes Patria.
