Mulabegović: It is time for the BiH Presidency to be depoliticized

The initiative to depoliticize the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, meaning its members should leave party positions, is positive, stated Nedžad Mulabegović, president of the Council of Bosniak Intellectuals (VKBI), for the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Independent candidate for the BiH Presidency member, Dr. Mustafa Cerić, launched this initiative, requesting that the members of the highest state body fully dedicate themselves to working in the interest of citizens, not their parties.

- In any case, this proposal is positive. It is in line with democratic principles, and according to them, any connection of officials to party positions parallel to state ones brings additional burdens. I think it is high time for BiH to transition to such a system. This would mean a small step forward – says Mulabegović.

Vehid Šehić, president of the Citizens' Forum of Tuzla, also believes the initiative is good in principle, although he states he does not have a positive opinion of its initiator.

- It would be very good if political party presidents, when holding certain state functions, would freeze their party positions. Because, we often do not know in whose interest and in whose name they are acting, whether as party representatives or as holders of state functions – says Šehić for NAP.
