MOSTAR Will Guzin get 18 votes?

MOSTAR, (Patria) – The continuation of the Mostar City Council session, which has been postponed three times (February 5, 10, and 12), will be held today starting at 4 PM.

The agenda still includes the election of the mayor, second round, with two remaining candidates in the running: Mario Kordić (HDZ BiH) and Zlatko Guzin (Coalition for Mostar).

Ahead of the second continuation of the session on February 12, the BH Bloc proposed to all parties participating in the City Council that the Mayor of Mostar be rotated every 15 months among three candidates from three blocs. The concept is that mayors would serve 15 months in office, then resign, and then a mayor from another bloc would be elected.

HDZ BiH resolutely rejected this proposal, calling it illegal, non-statutory, and contrary to the Rules of Procedure. HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović wrote to the OHR, the EU Delegation, and the US Embassy precisely because of this proposal, seeking a reaction and an end to such an idea.

HRS is also not interested in this proposal and has also sent a letter to the international community, warning that this proposal is not in line with the valid procedures.

SDA, or rather the Coalition for Mostar, is ready to accept this proposal. Izetbegović responded to Čović's letter, warning that the international community should indeed react if HDZ BiH continues with blockades.

SDP BiH President Nermin Nikšić said on Sunday that the proposed offer is not unconstitutional and does not envisage any changes to the Statute, but rather an agreement between the parties.

No one is yet willing to say whether an agreement has been reached between the Coalition for Mostar and the BH Bloc and the First Mostar Party, as they jointly have 18 votes.

Everything will be much clearer at the session itself, where the election of the mayor is finally expected.
