"Most Suade Dilberović" gets a new name: A drop of my blood flows and Bosnia does not dry up

On this day, December 3, 1999, the "Suada Dilberović Bridge" was renamed to "Bridge of Suada and Olga". As a reminder, the bridge was originally called "Vrbanja Bridge", then renamed to "Suada Dilberović Bridge" (April 6, 1996), and on December 3, 1999, it was again renamed to "Bridge of Suada and Olga".

Today, a memorial plaque is located on the bridge in memory of these two innocent victims, which reads: "A drop of my blood flows and Bosnia does not dry up."

Suada Dilberović and Olga Sučić were the first victims of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Suada Dilberović was a medical student at the University of Sarajevo, originally from Dubrovnik. 

Suada was the first victim of the siege of Sarajevo and is considered the first victim of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995. In March 1992, a conflict broke out in Sarajevo between members of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) and police officers under the control of the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina, when Serbs set up barricades in Grbavica and Vraca.

On April 5, 1992, peace demonstrations were held, where citizens of Sarajevo demanded that the aggressor forces remove the barricades and withdraw. Members of the SDS (Chetnik forces) fired from the roof of the Holiday Inn hotel at the demonstrators and killed Suada Dilberović. 

At the same spot as Suada, Olga Sučić was also killed, and therefore, on the bridge where these two young women were killed, there is a monument to them as the first victims of the aggression in Sarajevo.
