(Patria) - The "Wings of Freedom" monument on Žuč will be officially unveiled on June 8, announced the Mayor of Novi Grad Municipality, Semir Efendić. That date is marked as the Day of Novi Grad Municipality and the Day of the Battle for Žuč hill.
The Wings of Freedom symbolize the victories of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Žuč hill.
"I invite all residents of Novi Grad, Novi Sarajevo, Vogošća, as well as other municipalities of Sarajevo Canton, and all others from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina to join us on June 8," Efendić wrote on Facebook.
The cornerstone was laid in 2022, and the grandiose monument symbolizes a bird as a symbol of freedom.
For the purpose of its construction, the Municipality purchased 8.9 hectares of land on Golo Brdo, and to enable access to this location, about 4 kilometers of road were asphalted, and a simulation of trenches from the war period was also created.
The largest territory liberated during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina was precisely on June 8, 1992, in the territory of Žuč, and it was one of the first victories of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Novi Grad Municipality had 25,000 soldiers, a large number of whom gave their lives for the defense of the country from the aggressor, for the freedom we live in today, which is why we are obliged to remember them, as well as our glorious victories.
In an effort to preserve from oblivion all that happened during the aggression against our homeland, the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo nurtures a culture of remembrance of the period of the defense-liberation war, not forgetting those who are responsible for the freedom we live in today.
