She begged her mother, I want to go home: Doctor Ferhata Šećerbegović charged for the death of 3-year-old Nejla

Almost 11 months have passed since the death of 3-year-old Nejla Bajrić. Today, the parents of the deceased girl were informed by the Prosecutor's Office of Brčko District that this judicial institution has concluded the investigation and that on October 27 this year, an indictment was filed against Dr. Ferhata Šećerbegović, reports the Patria news agency.

In the letter from the Prosecutor's Office that the parents received, among other things, it is stated that Dr. Šećerbegović is charged with the criminal offense of serious crimes against human health, i.e., due to negligent medical treatment. 

We recall that Nejla died on December 10 last year in an ambulance on the way to the UKC Tuzla. The last words of the little angel were „Mom, I want to go home,“ writes otisak.ba. 

We recall that Nejla caught a cold in December last year. She was sneezing and complaining of a sore throat.

Her parents took her to a doctor, where she received cough syrup and medication for a sore throat. They took her home, but her condition worsened. During the night, they took her to the hospital, where Dr. Karamujić removed accumulated secretions that Nejla could not expel, prescribed her therapy, after which she felt better.

Dr. Karamujić left her shift in the morning, and Dr. Šećerbegović arrived.

The parents then recounted that she changed the therapy, and that the test results were done only 15 hours after the girl's admission to the hospital.

-I noticed that the child was sweating and deteriorating, and then she started turning blue, so I called the doctor, and she told me to calm down and that it was a reaction to the medication. I begged the doctors to help me, so they sent the child for an ear, nose, and throat scan, but they only looked at her ears and throat there, and sent us back to the ward – Nejla's mother described the events at the Brčko hospital at the time.

However, little Nejla was getting worse.

- They all came for the visit, seven of them, no one reacted. I told them that the child was getting cold and would die.  

Nejla and her mother were then placed in an ambulance and, accompanied by a nurse, without a doctor, were sent to UKC Tuzla. Nejla died on the way to Tuzla.
