Possible research: Potocari Center to be enriched with ICTY archival material

Chairman of the Steering Board of the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial Center, Sadik Ahmetovic signed the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Memorial Center and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia regarding the establishment of the Srebrenica-Potocari Information Center".

As stated on the first page of this Memorandum:

“WHEREAS the ICTY's judicial records and its collection of evidence contain a vast amount of information on violations of international humanitarian law committed during the wars in the territories of the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s;

WHEREAS this documentation is of exceptional importance for victims and their families, as well as for lawyers, scientists, historians, journalists, and national authorities in the former Yugoslavia and other civil society actors working in the field of transitional justice;

WHEREAS, as part of its legacy, the ICTY must ensure that its public judicial records are accessible and made available to various users in the former Yugoslavia;

WHEREAS the Secretary-General of the United Nations stated in his report of May 21, 2009, that the establishment of information centers in the former Yugoslavia would ensure access to the ICTY's public judicial records and contribute to informing and raising awareness among the populations of the former Yugoslav countries;

WHEREAS the United Nations Security Council has requested the ICTY to cooperate with the countries of the former Yugoslavia to facilitate the establishment of information and documentation centers by granting them access to copies of public records from the archives of the International Tribunal…”

The museum-educational content of the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial Center will, after the realization of the "Srebrenica-Potocari Information Center" project, be enriched with content that will enable the study of the vast ICTY archival material for all those from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, and the entire world who express interest in studying this subject.

After the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial Center has multiplied its offer to visitors in recent years by installing new museum-educational content, this important project at our Memorial Center creates new content so that, together with other genocide memorials in the world, we continue to warn humanity through our existence and work.
